Hello everyone! I wanted to share with you my delicious invention of Quaker Super Goodness Porridge Oats with Banana, Cacao & Raspberries.
Chocolate and Banana is my all-time favourite flavour combination. Even when I have my protein shakes (every morning), it is the Chocolate Slender Blend from ProteinWorld, blended with almond milk and an organic banana.
I’m one of the many many girls concerned with their weight, what they eat, their wellbeing and general fitness. But I’ve been known to go to extremes sometimes and make myself unwell with it. This is because, in the past, my personality means that I’m pretty one way or the other: completely obsessed, or not caring whatsoever (and then stressing about the fact I don’t care. Sound familiar to anyone?)
The idea of eating porridge automatically rings alarm bells in my head. They sound something like this:
ALERT ALERT CARBS ALERT GOING INTO FIGHT OR FLIGHT MODE
But, in the past year, I’ve really tried to be more balanced with food, and eat more ‘normal’ things – not just a protein shake for breakfast, salad for lunch, and then chicken and veg for dinner.
Sure, I lost like 30lbs when I was restricting my diet, I won’t lie, but I don’t feel it was very good for my mental health. Plus, when I ate like that, I got every cold and flu type bug under the sun!
So, I introduced more complex carbs – potatoes and rye bread. Nothing “too carby” like white bread or white pasta. And I got stronger – I put weight on – but my body was healthier. And I’ve had enough energy to go to the gym, which is amazing for me as I was pretty weak.
Now enter in one of my brand new inventions!
Quaker Super Goodness Porridge Oats With Banana, Cacao and Raspberries
I’d been meaning to get a handle on porridge since so many nutritionists, health bloggers, and gym bunnies rave about it. And it is delicious! So, when I saw a big bag of Quaker “Super Goodness” Oats on sale in Tesco, I snapped them up.
These oats contain:
Wholegrain Rolled Oats (75%), Wholegrain Rolled Barley (15%), Wholegrain Rolled Quinoa (7%), Flaxseeds (3%)
I paired it with Bioglan’s Superfoods Organic Cacao, organic bananas, milk, honey, raspberries and oranges, all of which I picked up at Tesco.
I even got this fancy bowl to eat it from! I never do things in halves, you know?
In terms of measuring out ingredients, I didn’t really do that, because this recipe kind of comes down to taste, i.e. what you personally like as a flavour, but there are instructions on the back of the packets if you want to be strict: 40g of grains with 170 ml of milk
I started by putting some of the yummy oats into one of my pans and then topped it up with milk.
Then I set the pan at a medium heat and kept stirring so that the porridge didn’t stick to the bottom. I have sticky cast iron pans, so they’re really annoying with that sort of thing. I have to watch them like a hawk.
Midway through, I made myself a lovely Nescafe Azera coffee. I love coffee in all shapes, sizes, and strengths. But, for a quick cup, this tastes so good. Love it!
The porridge thickened up nicely and was ready to put in my bowl. I added all the other ingredients (banana, cacao, honey, raspberries) and then ate the whole lot!
